What is a veterinary technician?

“I solemnly dedicate myself to aiding animals and society by providing excellent care and services for animals, by alleviating animal suffering, and promoting public health. I accept my obligations to practice my profession conscientiously and with sensitivity, adhering to the profession's Code of Ethics, and furthering my knowledge and competence through a commitment to lifelong learning.”

Its time to celebrate Vet Techs! We are the “nurses “ of veterinary practice and we do our job because we love animals and we  understand the bond we share with our pets so we choose this difficult line of work to satisfy  our willingness to help all creatures.

Vet tech  responsibilities include venipuncture, specimen collection and analysis, urinalysis, microbiology, hematology, and blood chemistry  Under the supervision of veterinarians, we also induce and maintain anesthesia and administer  medications, fluids and blood products. We assist veterinarians in physical examinations that help determine the nature of illness or injury. We perform catheterization, -urinary, arterial and venous, we take radiographs, and use other imaging equipment. We are physical therapists, nutritionists and counsellors.

We play a huge role in animal care and welfare, giving as much tender loving care as we can to all our patients. Our priority is always the animals and their owners who love them. We go out of our way to help those who can’t help themselves and speak for those who cannot speak.
